Thank you so much for your ongoing support of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Your continued investment in the Gallery furthers our standing as the largest public art museum on Vancouver Island, a status that comes with responsibilities. The Gallery’s committed staff and volunteers continue to lead the way with world class exhibitions, engaging programming, and A-list scholarship. The fact you are receiving this letter confirms what we already know: that art & culture matter to you and that you care about the Gallery. Support from our members collectively totals 63% of our annual funding.

We need you!

Under the solid leadership of Director Jon Tupper, the Gallery continues to make smart, progressive decisions to fulfil its mandate. Examples from this past year are “A Brush with War” from the Canadian War Museum and “The Modern Eye” curated locally. The coming year will bring equally fabulous exhibitions such as the nationally touring William Kurelek: The Messenger, which we are very excited about, opening in May 2012.

Your investments enable the Gallery to focus on the collection, exhibitions, programming and education. That said our very first and treasured donation – Sarah Spencer’s 1889 mansion – requires constant attention, our exhibition spaces and climate control would benefit from upgrades, and 45 art works need to be refurbished. The care required by the 18,000+ priceless pieces in the collection is endless.

We can’t do it without you. Your most appreciated investment, large or small, ensures the Gallery continues to thrive. With your commitment we will continue to inspire, challenge, and engage the community and celebrate art together.
